What does WBCSD stand for and what does it mean for Arçelik

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a global, CEO-led organization of over 200 leading businesses working together to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world. They help make their member companies more successful and sustainable by focusing on the maximum positive impact for shareholders, the environment and societies.

As global business faces new and complex challenges and opportunities, WBCSD’s science-based approach and targeted business solutions aim to scale up business impact. They target the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through six work programs to achieve systems transformation.

Arçelik, has joined nearly 200 forward-thinking companies as the newest member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) on 24th of June.

Led by the vision, Respecting the World, Respected Worldwide, Arçelik embed sustainability at the core of business strategy and adopt In Touch Technology approach which enables the company to create value for all our stakeholders. Arçelik takes concrete steps today towards a more sustainable future with the help of technology developed to improve the planet, life, and their business.

Being one of the supporters of TCFD, Arçelik commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 30%, and the absolute Scope 3 emissions from the use of sold products by 15% by 2030, from a 2018 base year. After successfully becoming carbon-neutral in global manufacturing operations (Scope 1 and 2) in 2019 and 2020 through its own carbon credit, Arçelik now commits to achieve net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.

Arcelik’s long-term strategy and apporach of sustainability challenges are well aligned with WBCSD’s new membership criteria and Vision 2050: Time to Transform which sets a shared vision of a world in which more than nine billion people are able to live well, within planetary boundaries, by 2050. To achieve this vision, Arcelik does its part for the world needs transformation at scale, and business needs to focus its actions on the areas through which it can best lead the systems transformations.
