The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact

Arçelik is a strong supporter of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as part of its commitment to being a responsible company. Our commitment to the UNGC is to embed Ten Principles into all our business operations and accelerate our ongoing efforts to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through our participation in the UNGC, we annually disclose and report our progress on the implementation of the Ten Principles and activities we carry out in support of the global 2030 agenda.

You can view Arçelik’s Communication on Progress (COP) and other activities and engagements on our Participant profile on the UN Global Compact website below.

CFO Taskforce is an initiative of the UN Global Compact that brings together a multi-sector group of corporate finance leaders, investors, financial institutions, and the United Nations to share ideas, develop new concepts and frameworks, and provide recommendations to unlock private capital and create a market to mainstream SDG investments.

As Arçelik, we are pleased to join the CFO Taskforce which will help us to strengthen our commitments to create real-world impact. We believe that CFOs are taking on increasing responsibility for impact well beyond financial performance and they are uniquely positioned to tackle business challenges we face today in sustainability agenda. Thanks to this platform, our CFO Polat Şen and his team will work together with their peers worldwide to develop corporate finance strategies in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

You can find our CFO Polat Şen’s thoughts on the platform below and visit CFO Taskforce website for detailed information:

“At the core of all our decisions at Arçelik is a deep commitment to sustainability. Much like many other businesses, our targets have been aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which drive our actions towards helping to solve today’s environmental and social challenges. CFOs hold great responsibility in ensuring that sustainability and purpose-driven business is built deep into strategy. From financial frameworks to investment decisions, we play a huge role in instigating long-term positive change. Joining the UNGC CFO Taskforce is a great opportunity for members of the group to share ideas, inspire change and collaboratively build value for a greater future.” – CFO, Polat Şen

Arçelik became an early mover of the Forward Faster Initiative which was launched by the UN Global Compact at the 78th UN General Assembly in September 2023. Forward Faster challenges businesses to elevate their ambitions in five strategic areas (living wage, gender equality, climate action, water action, and sustainable finance) to accelerate private sector action at the pace and scale needed to deliver on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and meet the 2030 Agenda.

As part of the Forward Faster initiative, Arçelik commits to:

  1. Contribute to a Just Transition by taking concrete actions that address the social impacts of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures, in collaboration with workers, unions, communities, and suppliers.

  2. Set corporate science-based net-zero emissions targets in line with a 1.5°C pathway, with the objective of halving global emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

  3. Build water resilience across global operations and supply chains, collaborating to achieve a positive water impact in at least 100 vulnerable and prioritized water basins by 2030.

  4. Align corporate investments to the fullest extent possible with SDG policies and strategies, setting targets, tracking, and reporting on the amount and proportion of such SDG investments.

  5. Establish a corporate financing strategy linked to SDG investments and performance, reporting on the amount and proportion of such SDG finance.
