Arçelik A.Ş. is drawing attention to the importance of water on 22 March - World Water Day - by conducting water efficiency studies on its products and manufacturing processes.

Acting in line with the vision 'Respects the Globe, Respected Globally', Arçelik A.Ş. is strengthening its global position day by day while using natural resources in the most efficient way possible and maintaining focus on sustainability of innovative and environmentally-friendly technologies. During this year’s World Water Day on 22 March, Arçelik A.Ş. underlined the importance of saving water and protecting clean water with its high-water-efficient products.

Drawing attention to the savings offered by efficient products, Hakan Bulgurlu, Arçelik A.Ş. CEO stated: "If all the washing machines and dishwashers in Turkey were replaced with Arçelik’s super-efficient products, annual water efficiency would reach 150 million m3. Moreover, this figure would be 500 million m3 annually if our super-efficient products were used instead of doing the dishes by hand. This equals the annual water consumption of more than 1.5 million houses." Explaining that they also recycle non-water-efficient products collected from the market at the recycling facility in Bolu as part of their responsible manufacturer initiative, Hakan Bulgurlu continued: "We prevented a total of 2.3 million m3 of water from going to waste by replacing non-water-efficient products with new and eco-friendly ones.”

Arçelik A.Ş. CEO Hakan Bulgurlu highlighted that, in addition to their efficient products, they have also saved water through studies carried out at their plants, which helped reduce both the use of natural resources and wastewater generation; he also commented: "It is the responsibility of us all to achieve a sustainable use of water, a vital natural resource for all creatures, and to leave it for future generations as one of the most valuable heritages. This year’s theme for World Water Day, celebrated with a different theme each year, is 'Wastewater'. At Arçelik, we have saved almost 1 million m3 water since 2011 through the water efficiency studies conducted at our plants. This way, we have saved water in an amount equal to the daily water consumption of 1,200,000 homes.

Sharing figures for 22 March, World Water Day, Hakan Bulgurlu continued: "What underlies food safety, energy safety, and economic and social development is water. According to the World Health Organization's report, the growth rates of countries that are rich in water resources that play a key role in economic development are higher than those of the countries who have limited access to such resources. Only 2.5% of the water on our planet is fresh water. This precious natural resource of ours is threatened by the negative effects of climate change and the increasing demand for water. According to a report by the World Wide Fund for Nature, the world population has tripled in the last century while demand for natural resources has gone up sevenfold. It is expected that in 2050, over 40% of the world’s population will be living in river basins subject to water stress. Due to its geographical location, our country is likely to suffer from water shortages by 2030."

Bulgurlu also stated: "The aim is to provide everyone with access to water and offer sustainable water management within the scope of 'clean water and sanitation', which is sixth on the list of the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, and 'responsible consumption and production', which is the twelfth goal. Our company contributes to this global goal by developing pioneering products in terms of water efficiency and focusing on the reuse of water obtained as a result of a closed-cycle water circulation approach in production.
